The Delgado/Spofford Mills Association communicates with its 350 Member Families through its newsletters and other
correspondence. In its earlier organizational days it was by correspondence mailed to each family. The organization grew
and a newsletter was developed in 2002 named "The Mill Hill Times." Since the inception of the Association, the Editor and
communicant with the membership has been William J (Jennings) Blanton. He was also the Association's President for the
first six years (1998-2003) and Jack Potter who had been a Vice President during those years was elected as President and
served 2004 and 2005. The position has been vacant for the Association year 2005-2006, and Jennings (Mill Hill name) has
served as Secretary/ Treasurer and Editor of "The Mill Hill Times."
"The Mill Hill Times" is usually mailed semi-annually in early Spring and about one month after each reunion. The newsletter
contains all of the pertinent information regarding the forthcoming Annual Reunion, such as date, time, location to include
site, city and address. It also includes food arrangements, dues if required. (over 80 years & under 16 dues are waived)
Otherwise the dues for adult members are $5.00 annually. This amount was established in 1998 and has remained the same.
Many members contribute additional funds to cover those whose dues are waived, and those who can't afford to pay. The
Association keeps in mind textile employees historically drew very low wages, and since textile plants began to close in the
1960s and subsequent years, "Mill Hill" people had little opportunity to accumulate wealth, and many live on Social Security
The newsletter contains the names of deceased members, experiences growing up on the "Mill Hill", photos of personalities,
pictures of scenery or activities of the residents and employees. Mostly, "The Mill Hill Times" is the glue that keeps the
membership informed and the Association organized. We meet to renew acquaintances, have fun, food, and fellowship, and
keep the "Mill Hill" spirit alive, although the textile industry as we knew it, is dead.
